Bought some brass sheet
Today, I bought a couple of sheets of 1.2mm brass to test out my new laser cutter. I’ve seen so many creative projects using this material, and I was eager to see what I could whip up. After some brainstorming, I decided to make a couple of spider earrings and a small bee scene fidget. Brass has a lovely shine to it, and I couldn't wait to see how my designs would turn out!
Engraving with Ease
One of the most pleasant surprises was how effortlessly the laser engraved my designs on the brass. The detail of the spider earrings was particularly impressive! The laser did such a good job capturing intricate patterns that really brought my vision to life. The fine lines of the spiders came out perfectly, making the earrings not just a piece of jewellery, but a statement.
Cutting Challenges
Now, while engraving was a breeze, the cutting part was a different story. I knew cutting 1.2mm brass could be tricky, but I didn't anticipate how much I would need to adjust my settings. The first attempts were a bit messy, and I ended up with some rough edges instead of smooth cuts. It’s clear that I need to take some time to play around with power settings and speeds to achieve the perfect cut. Practice makes perfect, right?
In my experience, using 1.2mm brass has been an adventure. I’ve learned that while some aspects of working with brass are smooth sailing, others take a bit more trial and error. The spider earrings turned out beautifully thanks to the engraving, and the small bee scene fidget is a fun addition to my collection. Overall, I’m excited to continue exploring what my laser cutter can do with brass. With a bit more practice and adjustments, who knows what other cool designs I can create?
So, if you’re considering diving into the world of laser cutting with brass, my advice is to embrace the learning curve. Don’t be discouraged by the bumps along the way! Experimentation is key, and with each project, you'll get closer to mastering this amazing material.
